The University of Edinburgh will host AIMday Bio-Solutions on Tuesday 6 December 2022 as a hybrid event at a venue in Edinburgh.
What is AIMday?
AIMday® (Academic Industry Meeting day) is based on workshops where challenges submitted by participating companies around a central theme are discussed with academics from relevant university disciplines.

The University of Edinburgh applies cross-disciplinary expertise to create a more sustainable world for future generations. We work collaboratively across disciplines – from molecular biology through to social sciences – to carry out research to address global challenges.
Our research ranges from fundamental life sciences through to planetary ecology and climate science. The applications of our expertise are similarly broad, spanning from industrial biotechnology to land management.
Our academic expertise in living systems and biological materials can be leveraged to provide nature inspired solutions to societal, industrial, and environmental problems.
Advances in research and technology are increasing the speed, scale and precision in which we can robustly and predictably modify and utilize biological systems for new and improved outcomes.
These advances span scales from the smallest building blocks of living systems across the objects and materials that support our modern lifestyle and on to ecosystems and landscapes, allowing for transformative improvements across many industries.
You can read about some examples of our key areas of strength and their applications in here.
You can also take the opportunity to sign up to an Explore Bio-Solutions webinar in September, and learn more about how Bio-Solutions expertise can tackle your challenges.
How to participate
To participate in AIMday, you need to submit at least one challenge phrased as a question, which you wish to discuss in a small workshop setting.
Join us at AIMday Bio-Solutions to access expertise across the University’s full range of specialisms including bio-materials, biofilms, genomics, and synthetic and systems biology to name but a few. Participating companies at AIMday Bio-Solutions can meet teams of researchers with practical experience across disciplines to explore and address the specific challenges each company faces. Each question submitted by a company is tackled by a group of multi-disciplinary academics with the aim of finding pathways to solutions. We are happy to help you come up with or phrase appropriate question(s), so please do not hesitate to get in touch with us at EPSRCIAA@ei.ed.ac.uk.
One question, one hour, a group of academic experts: that is the AIMday format!
After the event, our academics can apply for funding from an exclusive funding call, to work with an AIMday participant on their challenge.
Register your attendance at AIMday Bio-Solutions by submitting your question(s) on the registration page for organisations by Friday 7 October 2022.
Read more about participating in AIMday as an academic in Introduction for researchers and academics.
Please note that workshops are in general open for other companies to observe where relevant, but closed workshops can be requested if required.
Your question(s) and (company) name will be published on this website.
