The UK SPINE initiative consists of five core partners: the University of Oxford, the University of Dundee, the University of Birmingham, the Medicines Discovery Catapult and the Francis Crick Institute.We aim to accelerate the development of new therapies that improve health in old age by targeting the underlying mechanisms of ageing.

The MICRA project brings together Midlands Innovation’s technology transfer office (TTOs) in a programme which is building the largest formal collaboration between TTOs in the UK. MICRA is creating a spinout and start-up ecosystem that will accelerate the universities’ innovations to market by creating a joint pipeline of scalable investment opportunities and creating jobs growth across the Midlands.

Midlands Innovation is a collaboration between the eight research intensive universities in the Midlands. Our ambition is to drive cutting-edge research, innovation and skills development that will grow the high-tech, high-skilled economy of the Midlands and the UK.
Our aim is to build global hubs of research and innovation excellence, addressing topics where we can add value; from energy and transportation, to medical science and the arts and humanities
We will achieve our ambition by exploiting our unique strengths and building on the rich history of collaboration of eight leading Universities across the Midlands: Aston, Birmingham, Cranfield, Keele, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham and Warwick

By working together we will develop; a common strategy for maximising the impact of our research streams; standardised tools and approaches to clinical patient recruitment and study setup and a clear infrastructure for seamlessly signposting our capabilities to industry. We intend to increase our reach and our voice in national and international funding opportunities and secure regional investment to the Midlands, to this end we will work alongside the Midlands Engine and Midlands Health Innovation to increase funding to the Midlands.
