Funding & Pre-studies
We have access to dedicated funding that can be used for pre-studies. Participation in these studies and projects often leads to further collaboration and business opportunities.
Pre-studie from previous AIMdays
Previous AIMday Big Science Technology workshops have resulted in exciting pre-studies involving Big Science facilities, companies, and researchers.
- CERN, CoorsTek Sweden/Luleå University of Technology Metallurgical bonding of tungsten to a copper alloy
- CERN, Svensk Energi & Kylanalys (EKA)/AB Caverion Prestudy on move from F-GAS chillers to natural refrigerant chillers
- FAIR/GSI, FREIA/Examec Truncated cosine-theta magnet design
- FAIR/GSI, Grepit Constructing a trigger distribution network of COTS FPGA boards for experiments at FAIR using the Super-FRS
- F4E, MTC Powder Solutions/Luleå University of Technology Diffusion bonding of W and Cu
- EISCAT, Uppsala University/FREIA – EISCAT_SSPA Solid state power amplifiers (SSPA) for large research infrastructures
- Developing a Swedish cluster for super-conducting magnets
Success stories
EKA and Caverion are working on a prestigious project with CERN focused on sustainable cooling solutions
Our AIMday Big Science Technology, organised as part of the Swedish Big Science Forum in Lund 2024, has led to an exciting pre-study. The Swedish companies Ekanalys and Caverion have conducted this pre-study in collaboration with CERN, focusing on replacing traditional F-gas chillers with systems that use natural refrigerants. Environmental-friendly and energy efficient superconducting magnets with funding of SEK 19 million
A cluster of technology companies in Småland collaborated with Uppsala University and Linnaeus University in an EU research and innovation project on superconducting magnets with uses in, for example, Big Science. Read more on the Big Science Sweden website.
