Welcome to AIMday Digital Agriculture – October 1, 2020

Organised by

On October 1, 2020 we look forward to discussing Digital Agriculture industry challenges. This event will be held either online or in person, depending on the provincial pandemic guideline. We will send out detailed information to attendees in September.

Academic Industry Meeting day, or AIMday™, is centered around industry-identified challenges and/or questions.  At the workshops, multidisciplinary faculty from colleges, polytechnics and universities will discuss the specific questions (1 per workshop) with the aim of identifying potential solutions or pathways to solutions.

  • Each question or challenge submitted by a company is tackled by a group of selected experts, with the aim of finding a pathway to a solution.
  • One question, one hour, a group of academic experts
  • Register your attendance at the event by submitting a question on the registration page.

Background

Manitoba’s agricultural industry is well positioned to seize global market opportunities through the design and adoption of digital technologies. There are opportunities in crop and animal production, processing, transportation, and many other areas along the value chain from farm to consumer.

Government of Canada supports growth of the digital agriculture industry in Manitoba. In 2019, Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) invested in two projects. The University of Winnipeg (UWinnipeg) will work in partnership with Enterprise Machine Intelligence and Learning Initiative (EMILI) to promote machine learning and grow the digital agriculture industry in Manitoba. The research team includes experts from UWinnipeg, Red River College, the University of Saskatchewan, Northstar Robotics, Sightline Innovation, the Canola Council of Canada, and Manitoba Pulse & Soybean Growers.

The Digital Agriculture is an important sector for Manitoba’s economy. As we are exploring and investing in Digital Agriculture, it is essential for businesses, organizations and institutions to work together.

Industry and Academia Working Together

One of our shared objectives is to increase collaboration between Manitoba’s private sector and post-secondary institutions with the goal to foster a more competitive, digitally skilled workforce. Conversations between industry and academia will highlight the most relevant intelligent technologies for Digital Agriculture, and may lead to potential collaboration projects and novel solutions for industry challenges.
