Experiences from the University of Saskatchewan

The University of Saskatchewan (USask), through Innovation Enterprise, signed a collaboration agreement with Uppsala University 2017 to organize AIMdayTM events on campus. We have so far conducted five events in the areas of Minerals, Imaging, Big Data, AgTech and Internet of Things.

AIMday is a unique meeting concept that enables local industry to connect with researchers and academia at USask in a way that we had not done before. The format – one question, one hour, one group discussion – is well documented and key to success for us. We have seen conversations, discussions and new relationships form that have resulted in tangible new projects and collaborations. The events drive innovation forward by finding new paths to solutions to industry challenges.

Inspiration and Insight

Bringing competencies together in tailor-made discussions is key to identifying areas of common interest.

Efficient meetings

Every question is discussed for one hour, no more, no less. The size of the group is small, five to ten people. Each group includes industry representatives and researchers from various disciplines.

Great Networking

During AIMday there are plenty of opportunities for networking and spontaneous meetings. Many valuable contacts are made over a cup of coffee.

AIMday gives us opportunity and allows us to see things from different angles. I would come back for another AIMday!

Murray Schultz, Senior APT Manager, Mosaic Potash

The discussions at AIMday were very open and honest. It was great for me to realize that I have a completely different view of industry problems compared to academics. These were very productive workshops.

Marcel Mueller-Goldkuhle, Manager Process Engineering, K+S Potash Canada

Outcomes of these AIMday initiated projects are affecting and developing our company. We come here to find experts to tap into their expertise. We give them the perimeter (i.e. the session question) and they bring the expertise. I’m a big AIMday fan!
